Chinese social media data API FAQ, platform by platform (2026)
DataXAPI's 230 endpoints read what each platform shows publicly; they do not log in to your account, cannot post, like or comment, and read no private messages or back-office data. Below, platform by platform, is what it can and cannot get, with the questions most asked about charging, accounts and compliance. The free trial covers up to 333 calls; a failed call is not charged.

What can and can't I get on each platform?
What it cannot get is what the platform keeps private or shows only to the account's owner.
| Platform | Can get | Cannot get |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaohongshu | Notes, comments and replies, users, topics, trends, shop products and reviews, PGY creators and keyword indexes | Note view counts (not public) |
| Douyin | Videos, comments and replies, users and their videos, hot lists, play counts, Ocean Engine indexes, Xingtu creators | An account's back-office fan details and earnings |
| WeChat Official Accounts | Whole articles, article lists, reads, likes and other counts, featured comments and replies, account details and owner | Comments that were not featured |
| WeChat Channels | Videos, comments and replies, accounts and collections, live replays, videos in WeChat Search | Play counts |
| Bilibili | Videos, comments and replies, uploaders and their videos, popular, hot searches | Danmaku text |
| Kuaishou | Videos, comments and replies, users and their videos, hot list | Live room data |
| Whole posts, comments and replies, likers, users and followers, hot searches | Posts visible to followers only | |
| Zhihu | Answers and articles, questions, comments and replies, columns, pins, users and followers, hot list | Paid content in full |
How is it charged?
Per call with no subscription; each endpoint has its own price, charged when data comes back and never for a failure. The free trial covers up to 333 calls with no card; after that, top-ups start at $10, by Alipay or card.
Do I need a platform account or cookie?
No. You hold one DataXAPI key: no platform login, no cookie, no device to keep alive, so nothing touches your own accounts.
Is the data live?
Yes. Each call fetches from the platform at that moment, and meta.fetched_at says when; hot lists are snapshots refreshed every few minutes.
Is using this data compliant?
It reads publicly visible data only. What you do with it is yours to judge: personal information falls under China's Personal Information Protection Law, and the data should not be used to harass people, repost content or do what the platforms forbid.
Why DataXAPI
- Steady: endpoints were available 99.9% of the last 30 days, on a public status page you can check.
- Fast: a paid call took 2.5 seconds at the median over the last 7 days (counted 2026-11-06).
- Fewer tokens: across 226 endpoints, one recorded real response each, the platform's own JSON comes to 9.2M tokens and what an AI reads through DataXAPI's MCP server to 452k, 95% fewer; the JSON of a direct API call is 90% fewer too (counted 2026-11-06). Every platform answers in one shape: the author in
author, counts inmetrics, the next page inpage.next_cursor, so another platform needs no new parser. - See before you pay: every endpoint's page shows a recorded real response, field by field.
- Spending you control: a failed call is not charged; each key can have a limit,
X-Max-Pricecaps one call, and the sameIdempotency-Keywithin 24 hours is never charged twice. - Ready for AI: a remote MCP server listed in the official MCP registry as
com.dataxapi/mcp, usable from Claude, Cursor and ChatGPT. - Free trial of up to 333 calls, no card.
