Edge cases
What the WeChat Official Accounts endpoints do at their edges, and what to check when a call does not return what you expected.
- Page sizes
- A list returns 3 to 20 items a page, depending on the endpoint. 2 of the 3 lists go on to a next page:
page.next_cursor, passed back ascursor, each page a call of its own. The others return one page only. - Fields it cannot give
- 6 of the 6 endpoints cannot fill every field of the object they return. Each endpoint's page lists which, and every answer repeats them in
meta.unavailable: a missing field is never a silent zero. - Articles are named by link
- Article detail, comments and replies take the article's link: the long one with __biz, mid, idx and sn, or the short /s/ one. The
idan article comes back with cannot be used to fetch it. - Counts need the long link
wechat_mp.articles.metricstakes the long link only; a short /s/ link is not accepted there.- The original ID, not the WeChat ID
- Account endpoints take the original ID starting with gh_; an article's
author.idis one. The WeChat ID people type to find an account is not taken. - “10万+”
- Above 100,000 reads WeChat shows only “10万+”; the count then comes as 100001 and is a lower bound.
- Featured comments only
- Comments are the ones the account chose to show. Replies come as the first batch only, with no further page.

How is the WeChat Official Accounts API priced?
Per call, no subscription. All 6 endpoints cost $0.0200 a call. You are charged when data comes back; a failed call costs nothing.
Do I need a WeChat Official Accounts account or a cookie?
No. One DataXAPI key is all you hold: no WeChat Official Accounts login, no cookie, no device to keep alive. The endpoints return publicly visible data only.
Is the data live?
A call fetches from WeChat Official Accounts at that moment, and meta.fetched_at says when. A result is kept for 24 hours, so a retry with the same Idempotency-Key is not charged again.
Is an empty result charged?
A list that comes back empty is charged its price: the search was run. Reading one object that does not exist answers not_found and is free.
What happens when WeChat Official Accounts changes something?
A call that fails is not charged, whatever the reason. An endpoint that is paused answers capability_paused, also free, and GET /v1/catalog/status says what is up right now.
