Questions about Ads data
Short answers. Each endpoint's page has its own limits and examples.
TikTok Ads Library search API →How much does it cost?
$0.0020 a call on 13 endpoints. You are charged when data comes back; a failed call costs nothing. No subscription, no monthly minimum.
Do I need an account on the platform?
No. One DataXAPI key reads all 4 platforms. No platform account and no cookie.
What if a platform does not have a field?
The field is left out of the item and named in meta.unavailable on every answer. It is never filled with a guess or a zero.
Am I charged for an empty result?
On 8 of the 13 endpoints an empty result is charged as a call: the platform was read and had nothing to give. Each endpoint's page says which. Errors and timeouts are never charged.
Can I see how much an advertiser spent?
No. No ad returned here says what it cost. What the libraries publish is reach: Google gives a range of total impressions where it publishes one, LinkedIn a bracket of impressions, TikTok's Ads Library a bracket of people reached; Meta's search can be sorted by impressions. TikTok's Creative Center gives likes, comments and shares.
What is the difference between TikTok's Ads Library and the Creative Center?
The Ads Library is the transparency record of ads shown in Europe, with dates and a bracket of people reached. The Creative Center's Top Ads are a showcase of ads that did well, one country at a time, with likes and no dates. They are different sets of ads with different IDs, read by different endpoints.
How do I get all the ads of one advertiser?
On Meta and Google, find the advertiser by name, then pass its id to the advertiser's ads endpoint and page on. Meta lists the ads the page is running now; Google lists 40 a page, and an ad's text and landing page come from reading the ad itself. LinkedIn and TikTok are searched by keyword.
Do I get ads that have stopped running?
It depends on the library. Meta's search and advertiser lists return ads running now, and one Meta ad read by its ID says in ext.active whether it still runs. Google, LinkedIn and TikTok's Ads Library give each ad's first_shown_at and last_shown_at; for an ad still running, last_shown_at is when the platform last saw it.
