# What is the Douyin keyword index (Ocean Engine)? It is the keyword index of Ocean Engine Trend Insight (巨量算数, Juliang Suanshu), a tool for how attention moves on Douyin and Toutiao. It scores a keyword day by day with a search index and a composite index: scores, not counts. DataXAPI returns them for Douyin, with related keywords, the audience behind a keyword and the tool's topic boards. DataXAPI reads Douyin with 36 endpoints, from $0.0020 a call; a failed call is not charged. ## What it is and who runs it Its site, trendinsight.oceanengine.com, describes Trend Insight as the brand of Ocean Engine (巨量引擎) for insight into content-consumption trends, drawing on Toutiao, Douyin and Xigua Video, with tools such as its indexes and rankings. Its keyword index covers two apps, Douyin and Toutiao. Looking a keyword up there shows no fee. What is paid for is asking it to start covering a new keyword: a new keyword has figures from the day it is added, for one year, with no history before it, and approval and first figures take 3 to 7 working days. ## What its figures mean As its in-page help puts it: the **search index** is a weighted sum of the searches for a keyword and related content, and it says plainly that the search index does not equal the actual number of searches. The **composite index** is a weighted sum of related content, views and searches. The weights are not published. For a group of keywords it adds them up after removing duplicates, from the day after the group is made, with no figures before. Its other scores are weighted sums too: a topic's heat from posts, views, likes, shares and comments; a video's from plays, likes, shares, comments and followers gained; a brand's from its content, ads, searches and live streams. Content relevance between two words is how often they appear together, over the sum of how often each appears. ## What you can get through DataXAPI `douyin.index.keywords.history` gives a keyword's daily `search_index` and `composite_index` over the dates you set, up to five keywords a call. `douyin.index.keywords.related` gives the keywords searched with it or appearing with it in one week; `douyin.index.keywords.audience.get` the age, gender, province, city and interest of the people behind it. `douyin.index.trends.list` gives the tool's live and fastest-rising topic boards, `douyin.index.brands.history` a brand's daily search, content and spread indexes, and `douyin.index.videos.search` the high-index videos it puts forward for a keyword. No Trend Insight account of yours is used. ## What it cannot give A count of searches or of people: an index is a score. DataXAPI reads the Douyin side, not Toutiao. A keyword the tool does not cover is left out of the answer, and a day's figure usually comes a day or two late.
